There is a keepsake box at the bottom of Katie Searle-Jones’ wardrobe that she opens when she wants to feel close to her late mother. Inside is a locket containing a portrait of Pamela, a midwife, who died 11 years ago of ovarian cancer, age 50. Also inside that box is a small container of baby powder.
